The 48th Brandywine Tour!

Sunday, August 25th, 2024

The Delaware Valley Bicycle Club is pleased to offer our fully supported, highly acclaimed, Brandywine Valley Tour featuring covered bridges, picturesque villages, and amazing vistas! Enjoy any of five gorgeous routes with multiple rest stops serving varied menus including vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free options on request.

Our courses are over low-traffic paved roads through the lush, rolling Chester County hills known for its thoroughbred horse farms and beautiful landscapes. Our longer routes venture into the horse and buggy farm areas of Lancaster County. Century riders will roll to a rest stop in the aptly named town of Paradise PA. History buffs will love the historic revolutionary war connection of the nearby Brandywine Battlefield Historic Site. Others will be charmed by beautifully shaded roads winding by the area's many creeks and streams. Just a few miles before your ride's end, cyclists on the 50 and 100-mile routes will roll into one of the region’s best “cow-to-cone” ice cream farms for a refreshing, free ice cream.

Please pay particular attention to the following:

  • All routes may be navigated with cue sheets (provided) and/or GPS routes.
  • There will be no road marks, but we will place signs at major route splits.
  • Class II electronic bikes (bikes with pedal assist and a throttle) are not permitted on this tour.
  • SAG will be provided until 5 p.m.
  • All routes start at Charles F. Patton Middle School, 760 Unionville Road, Kennett Square PA 19348.

Your tour fees directly benefit the community! Proceeds after tour expenses are distributed to many community organizations. Past donations have included local trails and parks, non-profit cycling organizations and community schools and sports organizations.

2024 Road Routes:

  • 18 Miles - less than 900 feet of climb: our expert ride leaders will take novice road cyclists on a guided ride with some flat stretches and several short, fairly easy climbs. Enjoy a tranquil water/rest break midway along the route.
  • 35 Miles - This route, which climbs about 2000 feet, includes delightful rolls through quaint towns, plus magnificent equestrian farm scenery on the way to and from the Harmony Rest Stop.
  • 50 Miles - Lots of flat stretches but enough hills that you will take notice of about 2971 feet of climbing. This route is so pretty we hope it won't bring tears to your eyes! Two fully stocked rest stops plus lunch at the finish.
  • 66 Miles - Awesome scenery abounds in this ride from Chester County into Lancaster County and back again. Three fully stocked rest stops plus lunch at the finish with a tad under 4000 feet of climbing.
  • 100 Miles – with about 6,000 ft climbing.  This town and country ride has it all! We set you off on a moderate and scenic route, then head for the hills and dales of western Chester County and rural Lancaster County. You'll enjoy rolling past gorgeous Octorara Creek. Admire the impossibly tall corn, search for Amish Sunday worshippers with collections of horses and buggies visiting neighborhood farms. Plus you'll find two beautifully restored covered bridges on this route. Four fully stocked rest stops - including a stop in Paradise just for Century riders and a pizza stop - plus lunch at the finish.
