More About the Tour
26 Mile Route This year's 26-miler is a challenging, friendly route. We put some hills in
while keeping the great scenery and shaded back roads on the way to our
Brandywine Outfitters food stop. While there, check out the canoe rentals, stock
up on vittles, then follow the paddlers downstream on this quiet, shaded and
meandering section of our eponymous river.
50 Mile Route Your first choice in our challenge routes to the Fred Engle food stop. You skip
some hills that the longer routes take but still get some of the best cycling in
the Chester County and tri-state area — serene country roads, ever-changing scenery and something new around every bend. Then, if you're feeling frisky after the first 22 miles, you can tack on some extra miles by following the longer routes home.
65 Mile Route
The 65, 80, and 100 mile routes take the same through the first rest stop. All pass through the recently renovated Smith's Bridge and by the towering Granogue estate of Irénée duPont.
Ah, the sweet smell of money won't help you up these humps.
80 Mile Route Slumbering Groundhog, Bell Road and 20 miles – that's all that separates you from a full-blown century. Slumbering Groundhog is the outermost rest stop that is only available on the century. Your cut-off is at the 43-mile mark and your last chance
to shorten the route. Feeling enervated or languid? There's still a big Bell to ring and 37 miles left.
100 Mile Route Now you're committed -- or you should be. There are hills at the far end of this route in
Lancaster County and yet another covered bridge. We didn't go hill-hunting, honest.
We just liked the scenery and the flow of the roads and the creeks. In fact, we seem to have a penchant for flowing water as you will ride alongside the Brandywine for more than 20 miles as well as the White Clay, Red Clay and Bucktoe Creeks and cross more than 20 small runs. That's why this is among the best of the green coast.

About DVBC
The Delaware Valley Bicycle Club (DVBC) is a small non-profit organization
which serves Delaware County and adjacent areas west of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. DVBC, which is probably the oldest bike club in the Philadelphia
area, was formed in 1973 (informally circa 1968) to educate the public
as to the safe use of the bicycle through lectures, seminars, planned
rides, and other activities promoting the bicycle as an efficient and
enjoyable means of exercise, recreation, and transportation. DVBC is a
relatively small club and currently has approximately 180 members. We
are affiliated with League of American Bicyclists and the Bicycle Coalition
of the Delaware Valley. DVBC actively works on projects lobbying political
support for issues important to cyclists. We lead many free rides every
month for all levels of cyclists. Our meetings and rides are open to the
public.
